This essay examines through a discourse analysis how digitalization was viewed in Biblioteksbladet between 1995-1997. The study is set in the years 1995-1997 to document the time before the much-discussed IT bubble burst and the internet changed. The theoretical input is based on Laclau and Mouffe's discourse theory, which is then reflected in the methodological approaches taken to analyze the empirical data. By examining which equivalence chains can be identified, the material is also thematized. After that, the signifiers from the equivalence chains are placed in positive and negative connotations and analyzed. The analysis shows that during this time there were discourses that point out new information technology as a threat, an opportunity, a trend and as an important mission for libraries.
