This thesis examines high school teachers’ Person-Job Fit (PJ-fit), that is, how their personal characteristics, competencies, and values align with the demands of their professional role. Teaching is a complex profession requiring pedagogical skills, social presence, and the ability to manage emotional challenges, making the alignment between the individual and the work environment central to motivation, engagement, and professional sustainability. The aim is to explore how teachers perceive their Person-Job Fit over time and which personal, organizat-ional, and social factors influence this experience. Through qualitative interviews, teachers’ expectations, perceived fit for different tasks, and changes in Person-Job Fit over the course of their careers are analysed. The results provide insights into how individual characteristics and the school environment interact, and how this interaction affects job satisfaction, well-being, and the likelihood of leaving the profession.
