Sammanfattning

The concept of life satisfaction explains an individual's general satisfaction with life in its entirety. Life satisfaction is a well-studied subject and is affected by multiple factors. However there is some ambiguity on what factor has the most significance for women's life satisfaction. The individual's distribution between work life and private life is a contributing factor, as well as the individual's income and education also affect life satisfaction. The aim of the study is to investigate the significance of work-life balance and class for women's life satisfaction in a Swedish context. The theoretical framework of the study consists of Bourdieu’s theory of the social space, habitus and field as well as Karasek’s and Theorell’s demand-, control and support-model. The study uses secondary data from ISSP “2012 - Åsikter om familjeliv och arbete” and the study sample consists of women living in Sweden over 18 years old. The data were analyzed with multiple regression analyses. The study’s results show that work-life balance is more significant for women's life satisfaction than class. It has also been shown that class is a partial mediating variable. The study also shows that the control variable health is the strongest predictor for women's life satisfaction and is an intermediating variable for class and women's life satisfaction.
