In the contemporary digital landscape, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) technologies, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), into editorial workflows offers a transformative opportunity to revolutionize content creation across various news websites. This thesis delves into the potential and effectiveness of AI-assisted writing tools, examining their role in enhancing content quality, market reception, and workflow efficiency. By exploring and implementing new applications for NLG and benchmarking different technologies, the research aims to develop editor-assisting tools and AI-powered websites that optimize editorial workflows and allow editors to focus more on creative tasks. The study assesses the quality of AI-generated content and its overall impact on editorial processes. The findings reveal various potential AI applications in content creation, such as automating tasks, managing large datasets, and synthesizing comments. While fully automated websites are feasible, they cater to fewer article formats. The findings also revealed that AI-generated articles match human readability and excel in lexical diversity, though their formulaic style and limited scope might reduce audience engagement. All in all, this study shed light on the transformative potential of AI in shaping the future of content creation and dissemination.
