Mastering Change : Exploring the Effect of Absorptive Capacity and the Perception of Roles within MNC Process Changes

The purpose of this thesis is to deepen the understanding of how dynamic elements of absorptive capacity and the perception of roles influence process changes within multinational corporations (MNCs). By conducting a multiple case study on an MNC in the transport industry, this research examines the dynamic interactions between communication, knowledge, and roles across different stages of process changes. Through utilising this methodology, this research captures a variety of experiences and interpretations of knowledge flows. The findings highlight the dynamic elements of absorptive capacity, indicating that effective communication and robust training programs are vital for enhancing absorptive capacity, thereby facilitating the assimilation and transformation of new knowledge. Additionally, the perception of roles impacts the implementation of process changes, with misalignments potentially resulting in operational setbacks. As a result, this study highlights the necessity of fostering a collaborative environment and clearly delineating responsibilities to optimise process changes.
