Balancing access, privacy and security is not something new, but with technological innovation and ensuing regulations the challenge takes on new shapes and proportions. The current geopolitical situation has further put an emphasis on information security making the question of balancing objectives most relevant. On one hand, access to the archives is of considerable importance for democracy. On the other hand, the common good can sometimes be better served by secrecy. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationships between information security and records management through the lens of legal requirements in Sweden. The requirements were identified through the means of literary warrant analysis. The relationships between information security and records management were further analysed through the theoretical framework of the records continuum model. In studying the international standards for information security and records management in relation to the legal requirement the study found that there are some overlaps. Additionally, there are some complementary relationships between the framework for information security and the framework for re cords management. There are thus some similarities and some differences between the two. The biggest difference being the emphasis on different objectives. In conclusion, the study found that the fulfilment of legal requirements could be improved by means of an integrated framework.
