Thermo Fisher Scientific is an American biotechnology and clinical research company. Among other things, it manufactures analytical instruments for allergies and autoimmune diseases where Phadia 200 is one of the instruments in their catalog. The reagent containers in Phadia 200 will be updated and it is the task of the thesis to review the possibility of redesigning the carousel. The thesis also includes an overview of the compatibility between the new containers in the Phadia 200 instrument. The thesis aims to develop a concept of a redesigned carousel that meets the project sponsor’s requirements in CAD. The concept was developed in consultation with product specialists at the company, usually in the form of workshops and unstructured interviews. Once the concept was created, it was printed via a 3D printer where functionality and compatibility with the instrument were tested. The number of test tube slots in the prototype has been reduced to accommodate the new reagent container design, with equivalent flexibility to the current carousel. To allow reading of all containers with the instrument’s integrated reading system, the container locations have been adjusted to have an opening towards the outer edge of the carousel. Walls for the reagent containers have been created to avoid the risk of misplacement or displacement during use. The robustness of the prototype has been reinforced by the addition of ribs and a centering ring in the top plate. The prototype that was printed fulfilled the main requirements according to the project sponsor and has shown that the implementation of the new containers is possible. The thesis also suggests how to continue the development of the prototype regarding features that the thesis was not able to further investigate due to time constraints.
