Introduction: In perioperative care, there is several different health professionals working together. The operating theatre nurse and surgeon is standing together during the operation. To conduct patient-safe care, a functioning collaboration between professions is required. Deficiencies in the collaboration between the operating theatre nurse and the surgeon can lead to lack of patient safety, which can lead to injuries and suffering for the patient. Aim: The aim of the study was to illustrate factors that affect the collaboration between the operating theatre nurse and the surgeon in perioperative care, from the operating theatre nurse perspective. Method: Systematic literature study based on Polit and Becks nine-step model. The databases Cinahl and PubMed were used to search for studies. Eleven qualitative studies were included and analyzed based on qualitative content analysis. Results: The main category emerged from the results; Professionalism. Four subcategories were created; Respect, Communication, Working relationship and The operating theatre nurse ability to be one step ahead. Conclusion: The operating theatre nurse and the surgeon will have a great benefit from acting professionally. Factors such as; respect to each other, communication, working relationship and that the operating theatre nurse is one step ahead, is considered to be important.
