Sammanfattning

Climate change with more intense rainfall, combined with increasing urbanization and a growing number of paved surfaces, places major demands on future stormwater management. Urbanization has led to a lack of green and blue infrastructure in cities, where the integration of green and blue infrastructure into other urban functions is requested in order to create efficient land use while also promoting social qualities. This study investigates how open stormwater management can be integrated into existing urban spaces to create functional, social, and aesthetically appealing urban environments. The work is carried out as a case study of Kristianstad city center, a low-lying city at risk of flooding. Kristianstad represents a single case, but it can also serve as an example of how other Swedish cities vulnerable to flooding can work with open stormwater management as are source for creating added value. As part of the study, a design proposal is developed for Kristianstad city center in which open stormwater management is implemented within an existing urban environment in order to create functional, social, and aesthetic qualities.
