Sammanfattning

This thesis aims to analyse and optimize an industrial power distribution network, with a focuson selectivity and operational reliability. The project was conducted as a case study incollaboration with the consultant company SWECO.The study covers the industrial infrastructure from the 22kV medium voltage supply all the waydown to the various low voltage loads spread across the facility. Different network topologiessuch as radial, meshed and ring networks have been designed and studied in accordance withelectrical installation standards. Key components as transformers, circuit breakers, cables andswitchgears were dimensioned in accordance with Swedish and international standards.The result shows that mainly the radial and single ring network topology provides the optimalbalance between system reliability and cost efficiency. Selective coordination between theovercurrent protection devices was achieved through inverse time trip characteristics paired witharbitrary trip times, these based on the systems thermal constraints. The proposed system meetsdemands of modern power systems. This whilst the design offers a safe and scalable distributionsystem in accordance with Swedish and international standards
