Sammanfattning

Inventory management plays a central role in a company's efficiency, especially in manufacturing and distribution operations. This study examines how companies can improve their inventory management by combining item classification with quantitative methods for sizing safety stock and order quantities. Despite the availability of historical demand data, some companies lack structured approaches to make data-driven decisions about service levels, ordering systems and inventory sizing. The study is based on an ABC classification to distinguish items based on value and volume, the study applies batch formation models such as Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), and safety stock sizing adapted to demand variation and delivery times. The study aims to provide practically applicable insights for companies that want to improve their inventory management through data-driven decisions. The results show that ABC analysis can effectively identify priority items and that the EOQ model, combined with correctly dimensioned safety stock, enables a more balanced and cost-effective inventory management. Through these methods, companies can optimize their inventories without compromising service levels, which strengthens decision-making and reduces inventory-related costs.
