Oral hälsa och oralt hälsobeteende hos äldre individer med demenssjukdom : En allmän litteraturstudie

Aim: The aim for this literature review is to explore oral health and oral health behavior in ≥ 65 years of age individuals with dementia. Method: A general literature review was used as the study design. The study is based on 13 original scientific articles. A search for all articles was conducted in the databases DOSS, CINAHL and MEDLINE where specific inclusion and exclusion criteria affected which articles were displayed. A quality review was then performed. Results: 13 scientific articles speak for statistically significant values that highlight oral health & oral health behavior among older (≥ 65 years) individuals with dementia. The results showed an increased prevalence of poor oral health, poorer oral hygiene, and reduced ability to perform self-care compared with cognitively healthy individuals. Conclusion: The study shows that older people with dementia are a vulnerable group with impaired oral health and oral health behavior. The results indicate that this is influenced by several interacting factors and that there is a need for preventive and person-centered oral care interventions and improved collaboration between care and relatives.
