Sammanfattning

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems Production Skellefteå AB sees development potential in one of its door components: the truss bottom beam, which is used in all of their larger door models. The truss beam must be transported in shorter sections before being assembled on site. The installers state that the current joint solution provides poor access to the bolted connection. The truss beam is available in many different configurations in terms of both height and the dimensions of its components. The company sees potential in modularizing the most common configurations in order to enable a higher degree of automation in manufacturing. This would result in a more streamlined production process. With modularized sections, the purchasing department can also work more efficiently when preparing quotations for customers. To identify assembly issues and generate ideas for improvements, interviews were conducted with installers as well as the subcontractor supplying the truss beam. The ideas were then brought into a concept generation meeting with the engineering department, aiming to develop alternative joint solutions, which were subsequently evaluated. As part of the mapping of which beam variants are most common, statistics were collected. Suitable module lengths were identifed from a transportability perspective. The results show a concept featuring a new joint solution that meets strength requirements, and a beam system that has been reduced from 77 to 6 variants.
