Sammanfattning

This thesis examines how children’s right to participation can be interpreted and implemented, from right to spatial consequence within the built environment. Even though the Convention of Children ́s Rights is Swedish law, uncertainties remain about how children’s participation actually affects architectural processes (Boverket, 2020). Through a qualitative comparative case study of arki_lab and Reggio Emilia, the study analyzes how children’s perspectives are interpreted, organized and translated into spatial strategies or principles. The study shows that the central challenge is not primarily about the will to include children, but rather how children’s perspectives are translated. The work aims to contribute with a deeper understanding of the conditions required to create meaningful participation for children within built environment. The results highlight that meaningful participation requires continuity, feedback, interdisciplinary collaboration and methods based on children’s everyday lives. Based on the analysis, the study will result in a design-oriented toolkit, intended to support architects and planners in translating children's participation into spatial qualities and strategies.
