The dialectics of science: a balancing act of understanding

In this project, I am going to examine the dynamic tensions within science. I will explore the dialectical nature of scientific progress, where unresolved problems and/or tensions within already established theories are, sometimes, the fuel to achieve scientific progress. The goal is to better understand how science balances competing ideas, adapting in response to unsolved problems, and to see how, even if theories have tensions or are incomplete, they can still be used to describe, at least, part of reality. When theoretical predictions meet new observational data, unexpected contradictions can emerge. Far from being obstacles, these tensions become productive spaces, challenging foundational assumptions, refining existing models, or inspiring entirely new frameworks. The challenge is not only to refine theories in response to contradictions but also to continue applying them productively, even as gaps remain. Scientific progress, then, operates on a threshold, where the act of understanding is continually being challenged and possibly redefined. To illustrate this process, I explore astrophysical examples such as the "solar modeling problem" and the "Hubble tension", offering a glimpse into the intricate interplay between observation, theory, and the infinite pursuit of knowledge. Ultimately, this report reinforces the idea that science is a never-ending pursuit, a process driven by curiosity, creativity, and the desire to comprehend the world more deeply.
