Sammanfattning

The aim of this study is to examine what psychotherapists think of the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF) and how they apply it to their work. This is a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with six licensed psychotherapists based in Sweden. A thematic analysis was used to organize data collected during interviews. The results were obtained using theories of social construction, power and relational psychotherapy. The respondents find PTMF interesting because it focuses on the individual’s context in relation to their mental health. They mean that this can give the individual an understanding of the problem and empowers them to adapt and change. Clinical usage of PTMF varied among the respondents. The results indicate that PTMF is generally accepted and an interesting theory to challenge the current mental health perspective in Sweden. Direct use of PTMF in clinical settings was limited but two of the respondents used it regularly.
