As sustainability demands continue to increase, industrial companies face the challenge of balancing economic profitability with long-term sustainability goals. This development has led to the emergence of hybrid organizations, in which multiple institutional logic coexists. In this context, organizations must simultaneously navigate a commercial logic focused on financial performance and a sustainability logic concerned with environmental and social responsibility. Consequently, different organizational functions are required to manage tensions, competing priorities, and resource-related challenges in their daily operations. This study examines how finance, production, and sustainability functions within hybrid organizations interpret and manage these competing institutional logics. The findings indicate that all functions perceive sustainability as an important component of the organization’s long-term development and survival. However, the commercial and sustainability logics are interpreted and prioritized differently depending on each function’s responsibilities and organizational position. The results further demonstrate that organizational tensions primarily arise from competing demands regarding resource allocation and prioritization between short-term profitability and long-term sustainability objectives.
