ntroduction: With an increased awareness of sustainability issues, there is a growing interest in urban gardening in Sweden's major cities, reflected in the expanding network of gardening communities and gardens. By analyzing the connections between gardening, cultural heritage, and public health, this study can provide insights that can be useful in promoting gardening as an integral part of sustainable urban communities. Aim: This study aims to investigate how urban gardening can contribute to sustainable development with a focus on both preserving cultural heritage and promoting public health in a Swedish context. Method: Qualitative interview method. Conclusion: The evolution of gardening in Sweden has seen it go from a way for people to supplement their income and tend to basic needs regarding medicine and sustenance, to in today’s modern urban lifestyle, serve as a way for people to connect with others and grow their social capital.
