Sammanfattning

Abstract Background Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a widespread social problem with serious consequences for individuals and society. Understanding the factors that contribute to the perpetration of IPV is essential for developing effective prevention strategies. Objectives This scoping review aimed to identify factors associated with the perpetration of IPV. Methods A scoping review was conducted using the PCC framework. The literature search was conducted in the databases PsycInfo, Sociological Abstracts, ASSIA, and Swepub. Peer-reviewed studies published between 2005 and 2025 in Swedish or English and conducted in Western contexts were included. Literature searches yielded eight studies, which were analyzed using a descriptive analysis. Results IPV was found to be influenced by interacting individual, developmental, and sociocultural factors. Key risk factors included antisocial personality traits, difficulties with emotional regulation, childhood exposure to violence, insecure attachment, traditional masculinity norms, and socioeconomic disadvantages. The findings suggest that these factors reinforce one another rather than operate independently. Conclusion IPV perpetration cannot be explained by a single factor but arises through a complex interaction of individual and contextual influences. The findings highlight the multidimensional nature of IPV and underscore the need for interventions targeting both individual and societal levels.
