Sammanfattning

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming work practices within user experience (UX) design. This study investigates how designers and related professionals at a Swedish technology company use and integrate AI tools into their daily work. The study is based on a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. Nine participants with varying roles and levels of experience in UX, software development, and product management took part in the study, providing a broad perspective on the use of AI in the design process.The findings show that AI is primarily used as a support tool for ideation, thematic analysis, generation of microcopy, synthetic data, and repetitive coding tasks. Tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Figma Make, and Codex are used in parallel without a clear organizational standard. Several participants described AI as a “sounding board” rather than a replacement for human expertise. At the same time, concerns were raised regarding quality control, loss of competencies, and changes in team dynamics.The study also includes the case study Mammor i Strängnäs (Mothers in Strängnäs), in which a mobile application was developed using both a traditional UX process and an AI-assisted process. The results indicate that the AI-assisted process reduced development time by approximately 50 percent while producing an outcome that was perceived as comparable from a user perspective. The conclusion is that AI can improve the efficiency of certain stages of the UX process, but that the designer’s judgment, understanding of users, and strategic decision-making remain essential
