In an increasingly secularized society, religious communities continue to play a distinct role in shaping individual well-being and social connections. The purpose of this essay is to present a sociological analysis of what assembly engagement gives its members. By interviewing six active Christians using theories by, among others, Émile Durkheim and Anthony Giddens to analyse the empirical data through thematic analysis, three central aspects were identified: community, religious belief and meaning. From these central aspects, themes such as ‘belief as a doorway to community’ and ‘heartfelt communion’ were identified. Meaning, while not initially the main focus, proved to be the essential feeling the respondents expressed regarding their religious community and faith.
