Artificial Intelligence Use in Architectural Concept Development

Intelligence is continuously integrated into the various design stages of architecture, whereas semi structured interviews with industry professionals and a literature review reveal that a lack of customization and control encourages AI-induced frustration as a user experience. The purpose of this thesis was to explore how artificial intelligence is currently used and how it can be further implemented within the concept development stage in an architecture office in collaboration with AI Sweden and Tengbom, Gothenburg. The results highlight a need for a highly customized AI tool that will support selective AI generation of elements such as material and light while maintaining creative authorship. The beginning of a prototype was produced inside of ComfyUI using a FLUX2 Klein photo editing 9b model. Recommendations of future work include the development of the prototype through further strengthening structural control, introducing more reference images and lora training to generate illustrations matching the architecture office’s own graphic identity.
