Sammanfattning

This study involved a descriptive case study at the warehouse department of Lann Industries in Värnamo, focusing on analysis of the flows within the production sub-processes of Arrival (process A) and packaging (process B). The purpose of the study was to identify existing waste within the department, as well as their underlying root causes to be able to formulate concrete improvement proposals, in contrast to the studies theoretical framework of Lean Manufacturing and its principles. The purpose reflects the company needs to increase efficiency, overall capacity, as well as its customer value to achieve high competitiveness. To fulfill the purpose of this study, following the research design, a mapping phase visualizing the current state is conducted. To ensure qualitative results the study aimed to ensure high precision during the mapping phase, this through establishing a foundational understanding of the departments material flows and physical layout. Which was made through site visits and direct observations. During the establishment of the current state analysis lean tools were used such as value stream mapping and spaghettidiagram, referring to the studies theoretical framework. Furthermore, systematic time studies were performed to quantify time losses and categorize process deviations based on the eight wastes (Muda). Critical inefficiencies were then evaluated through the "Five Whys" analysis to establish their definitive root causes. The empirical findings and results reveal waste in the form of unnecessary transport, movement, and internal over-processing. The primary root cause behind these wastes lies from layout constraints and space limitations, which causes needed materials such as packages and tools being placed far away from the actual workstations. Additionally, the variation A3 of the arrival process is identified within this study as the main bottleneck.
