Sammanfattning
The purpose of this study is to investigate the gap between modeled spatial accessibility andperceived accessibility within public transport planning, focusing on the municipality ofKarlskrona. While traditional transportplanning often measures accessibility through staticgeographical proximity to transit stops, this approach frequently overlooks the constraintsfaced by shift workers and individuals commuting outside regular office hours. To addressthis issue, the study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) network analyses with qualitative survey and interview data. Thismethodology enables a comprehensive analysis of commuting conditions across three distinctemployment nodes in Karlskrona: Trossö, Verkö, and Bergåsa.The results demonstrate significant spatial and time-based disparities depending on the natureand location of the employment node. While central nodes like Trossö exhibit highaccessibility and seamless timetable alignment, outer industrial and institutional nodes suchas Verkö and Bergåsa present severe time-geographic barriers. For shift workers at theselocations, static geographical proximity to public transport proves insufficient due to a lack ofalignment between transit timetables and mandatory shift schedules. Consequently, thesescheduling mismatches create structural barriers, forcing a high reliance on private carcommuting despite adequate physical infrastructure. Based on these findings, the studyconcludes that transport planning must shift its focus from purely spatial metrics to dynamicscheduling and time-geographic matching. For future research, it is suggested to expandmodeled accessibility analyses across a broader range of time periods and transport modes, conduct comparative national studies, and execute behavioral studies to identify the specificthresholds that influence a traveler's choice to transition from private cars to public transit.
