Abstract This report examines how modular design can transform glasses from static medical aids todynamic accessories that promote sustainability and personal expression. Historically, eyeglasses have primarily developed from functional needs, but over time they have alsobecome an important part of an individual´s identity and style. At the same time, today´sconsumption patterns in fashion and accessories often lead to shorter product lifespan andincreased resource consumption. The problem is therefore rooted in users’ need to vary theirexpression without having to buy completely new glasses every time. The aim of the work is to develop a concept where the same glass can be used in severaldifferent frames through a simple modular system that does not require screws or visits to anoptician. The project was carried out in collaboration with EOE Eyewear, a Swedish eyewearbrand founded in Lapland. The company is internationally recognized for its work withsustainable design, circular material flows and innovative solutions in eyewear industry. Thecollaboration contributed insights into aesthetics, user behavior and sustainable productdevelopment in the premium segment. The method choice includes a user-centered design process with surveys, observations andinterviews with opticians and the Creative Director at EOE Eyewear. Through an iterativeprocess with extensive sketching on different aesthetic tracks, round, square and uniqueshapes, a broad decision basis for further concept development was generated. The result is presented in the form of a modular system consisting of six different frameiterations and six different temple types that the user can combine based on style, situationand preference. The work shows how modularity can contribute to a longer product lifespan, increased flexibility for the wearer and a more sustainable approach to glasses as both afunctional aid and a fashion accessory.
