Sammanfattning

Sustainability House is a proposal for a site-specific, materially and structurally sustainable hybrid building for public use in Nynäshamn. The programme includes a community garden for growing food, research spaces, co-working/study areas, meeting rooms, lecture rooms, spaces for pop-up shops, and a restaurant and café. Many spaces are multifunctional. Sustainability House produces vegetables for schools and nursing homes in the town of Nynäshamn and makes the most of local residents’ interest in gardening. Activities aim to provide education about crop growing and sustainability, including research on energy recovery from the community garden. Sustainability House is located on Alkärrsplan, in central Nynäshamn. This is next to the campus and they will work together. The community garden, combined with the research, the open co-working/study spaces and bookable meeting rooms, facilitates encounters between different groups, contributing to knowledge exchange and production, as well as social sustainability. Sustainability also permeates the design – from the choice of materials to flexible functions to extend the life of the building. An overall plan that is variable, with no load-bearing walls and few load-bearing elements, allows activities in the building to completely change their focus or be complete separated from one another. The roof captures solar energy and collects rainwater for the garden. Alkärrsplan currently has a car park of around 3000 sqm and a large oak tree. The oak tree, the surrounding streets and the solar panels on the roof have influenced the design of Sustainability House. Sustainability House helps to link together the urban space.
