Sammanfattning

This study explores the narratives of school librarians around their work situation in context of new Swedish legislation requiring school libraries to be staffed. Five semi-structured interviews have been conducted and gone through narrative analysis based on Etienne Wenger's theory of communities of practice and Judith Butlers definition of performativity. The findings indicate that both inexperienced school librarians in newly established positions and more experienced school librarians experience similar difficulties in their day-to-day work. These difficulties were often in relation to collaboration and the practice community at school, leading to an experience of an increased need to gain recognisability by performing their professional identity. Furthermore, the school librarians' view on the legislation change was found to reflect their narrative around their role and responsibilities as a school librarian.
