Improving the Development of Procurement Systems through Agile and DevOps

Procurement system development has become more challenging in today’s fast-changing business environment. These challenges like data complexity and structuring, integration with external systems, regulatory and compliance demands, time and project management constraints and skills and resource gaps are even greater when using traditional software development methods. This thesis looks at the main difficulties in developing procurement systems and how Agile and DevOps practices can help solve these issues. It also examines the benefits and obstacles of using Agile and DevOps in procurement system development. The study used a qualitative research method. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with five professionals with experience in agile and DevOps practices from academic and industry backgrounds. Based on the thematic analysis. The results showed that organizations face several challenges. Participants mentioned issues related to data complexity and structuring and integration with external systems. regulatory and compliance demands was also seen as difficult. In addition, many organizations struggle with skills and resource gaps employees. According to participants, traditional methods often fail to deal with these problems because they lack flexibility. The study also found that Agile practices help teams react more quickly when changes happen. These practices support iterative development and sprints, communication and crossfunctionality, customer collaboration and feedback loops and flexibility and responsiveness to change. DevOps contributes by making systems more reliable and speeding up delivery, mainly through automation and continuous deployment, infrastructure as code and environment consistency, DevOps collaboration and knowledge sharing and monitoring, security, and incident response. Even so, cultural and organizational challenges still stand in the way of adopting these methods effectively. Based on the findings of this thesis, The combination of Agile and DevOps enables faster and more reliable development of procurement systems, while also enhancing the ability to meet evolving business demands. However, successful adoption requires more than the implementation of tools or frameworks it demands organizational commitment, cultural readiness, and a willingness to transform development, delivery, and maintenance practices.
