We find ourselves somewhere in the middle of a rapidly evolving digital world, where one AI-driven tool after the other promise great improvements for professionals working in software development. In the race to stay relevant there are many incentives for agencies to adapt these new tools which raise questions about ways of engagement. This study aims to uncover areas of ambivalence associated with the current use of AI-powered tools to contribute to a conscious human-AI collaboration. We conducted a qualitative study with a local software development agency by a triangulation of methods to research the experienced benefits and risks associated with the use of generative AI-tools. These included conducting a focus group to navigate towards a common goal, interviews to discover detailed experiences and a workshop to explore hidden perceptions and potential future scenarios. The insights were analyzed through Thematic Analysis to discover relevant themes which were then compared and challenged by previous research to add strength to the data. Our key findings lie within the ambivalence, around the opinion of productivity, quality and collaborations, connected to the use of AI as professional tools.
