Kommunikationsstrategi för samhällsacceptans vid etablering av SMR : En fallstudie av Valdemarsvik

The interest in new nuclear power in the form of SMR, Small Modular Reactors has increased in Sweden. The municipality of Valdemarsvik has been identified as a potential site for such an establishment, which means that issues of local acceptance and dialogue with stakeholders become central already at an early stage. For an actor to be willing to invest time and financial resources in the preparatory work and licensing processes required for a potential establishment, local attitudes are of considerable importance. Communication and trust-building efforts play a significant role in lowering the threshold for achieving local acceptance of such a project. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a communication strategy that can be used by Kärnfull Next during the early stages of establishment to create understanding and trust regarding a potential nuclear energy power plant in the student’s birth town Valdemarsvik. The report has collected answers on a questionnaire from more than 50 individuals to identify need and interest of more information, and to see how the individuals prefer to get what kind of information. The report also lists a number of questions that is raised from locals and give a suggestion in how to communicate to raise the knowledge and lower the fear of a potential nuclear energy plant in Valdemarsvik.
