Sammanfattning

The thesis was carried out in collaboration with AB Halmstad Gummifabrik. The aim ofthis thesis was to identify a suitable material for the bottom plate of a container used forhandling rubber. The goal was to reduce the need for cleaning, minimize downtime andthereby increase efficiency of the process. At the same time the material had to meetcurrent environmental requirements and must therefore be free from PFAS.The thesis began with a literature review, which formed the basis for selecting sevenmaterial plates. The materials and coatings that were included: two polymers, twoceramic coatings, one diamond-like carbon coating, one combination of metal anddiamond-like carbon coating and the plate currently in use.Two experiments were done, a tilting plane to determine the coefficient of friction, anda pull test to measure the force required to separate the rubber from the material plate.Both tests were done at two different temperatures.The results showed that several materials exhibited such high adhesion that sliding didnot occur in the tilting plane experiment, which meant that the coefficient of frictioncould not be calculated as intended. Based on the measurable angles a comparisonbetween the materials was still possible. Material plate 3 (ceramic coating) performedbest according to the available results. It also showed the best performance in the pulltest. Material plate 3 was therefore assessed to be the most suitable alternative in thisthesis.Keywords: Friction, Adhesion, Rubber, Low-Friction Materials and Low-FrictionCoatings.
