Sammanfattning

This thesis presented the development of a low-cost retrofit system for remote current monitoring in older wind turbines using existing Telldus infrastructure. Theobjective was to enable electrical current measurement and transmission withoutmodifying the installed communication system. The system was based on a non-invasive current transformer (CT) for safecurrent acquisition. The measured signal was conditioned and sampled using anESP32 microcontroller, where RMS current was calculated and averaged over afive-minute interval to improve stability. The processed value was then mappedto a digital potentiometer (MCP4131), which emulated a temperature-dependentresistance. This allowed the Telldus system to interpret current measurements astemperature values and transmit them through the existing wireless network.Experimental results showed that the system successfully performed end-toend measurement and transmission. An average current of 4.335 A correspondedto a potentiometer step of 109 and a displayed temperature of approximately−25.2◦C in the Telldus application. The results confirmed stable RMS measurements, effective noise reduction through averaging, and correct mapping betweencurrent and transmitted values. The study concluded that it is possible to extend legacy monitoring systemsusing low-cost embedded electronics. The proposed solution provides a practical and cost-efficient method for enabling remote monitoring in systems whereinfrastructure replacement is not feasible.
