Sammanfattning

This thesis investigates the relationship between bearing capacity and rut depth development in road constructions, focusing on different types of roads across varying climate zones in Sweden. Utilizing rolling bearing capacity measurements and data from the Swedish Transport Administration maintenance system: PMSv4, the study examines how bearing capacity influences rut depth over time on five distinct road sections. The findings indicate significant differences in how bearing capacity correlates with rut depth development, depending on geographical location and climate. The analyses shows that climatic factors play a significant role in rut depth development, and roads in colder climates exhibit a weaker correlation between bearing capacity and rut depth, underscoring the need for tailored maintenance strategies for different regions. This research contributes to an improved understanding of maintenance planning and lifecycle management of road infrastructure in an era of climate change and increasing traffic loads.
