Sammanfattning

Implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a strategic investment for organisations to reach business outcome effects such as increasing productivity, gaining a competitive advantage on the market and enhancing business processes. However, implementing an ERP system is often a complex task that more often than not leads to failure despite existing research on how to avoid such outcomes. Business process modelling (BPMo) with the help of the usage of a business process modelling tool in an ERP system implementation project is a success factor to reach business outcome effects after the ERP system implementation project. The business process models that come as a result of BPMo help practitioners understand complex processes and provide business process documentation that is easier to understand than business process documentation written in text. It is a problem that many practitioners do not recognise BPMo as a success factor for a successful ERP system implementation project and more practitioners should manage their business processes with the help of BPMo to reach business outcome effects. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to identify and describe the success factors that contribute to business outcomes effect when team members use a Business Process Modelling tool during an ERP implementation project from the perspective of a triad of team roles. The case study method was chosen for this bachelor thesis. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with five employees from the two case organisations. The two case organisations are currently working together in an ERP system implementation project. The three conclusions of this bachelor thesis is (1) that the BPMo tool usability is of higher degree of importance than the functionality of the BPMo tool, (2) that communication between the team members is one of the most important success factors to reach business outcome effects after an ERP system implementation project and (3) that the usage of a BPMo tool is a success factor to realise business outcomes effects after the ERP system implementation project because modelling business process provides high quality business process documentation.
