This is an insight to tactile design within the graphic design field. The starting point is the book The senses: Design beyond vision by Ellen Lupton and Andrea Lipps. They describe how graphic design is limited to only the vision and how that is a loss for the design field. This essay tries that theory by exploring touch and tactility in graphic design. Fraylings design research methods are used to give an insight to tactile methods and how they can be applied in a graphic design process. The theory of perception is explored through a literature study and compared to previous design theories. The results of the research and studies show how cutaneous perception plays a large part in how we interpret the world around us. Together with related research and design studies it is concluded that touch is a vital sense in how we interpret design. What is also concluded is that there are existing tactile design methods though they are limited in availability. They are also difficult to apply in a graphic design process without a system for tactile integration in a digital process.
