Vi mot dem : En kvalitativ innehållsanalys om hur den affektiva polariseringen manifesterar sig i politiska debatter på X

Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study was to analyze how affective polarization manifests in political debates on X. By using a qualitative content analysis to examine two X-threads about Israel- Palestine conflict and Sweden’s NATO-membership. By combining social identity theory with the results gathered from these two X-threads this essay showed that in both of the selected X-threads showed high levels of both affective and political polarisation. Which was symbolised by the lack of common ground between the two primary sides of the discussed issues. This essay further showed that the nature of how affective polarisation manifested in these threads showed a significant difference depending on which topic was discussed. As more emotionally driven topics such as Israel and Palestine showed higher and more severe levels of affective polarisation. As opposed to topics such as Sweden's NATO-membership which showed more stable and friendly levels of affective polarisation.
