Att hitta rätt på gymmet : En rapport om hur navigationssystem kan gestaltas för att bättre stödja äldres navigering i komplexa gymmiljöer

This present report concerns a bachelor’s level degree project in information design with a focus on spatial design. The thesis aims to develop a navigation system för the machinery in a gym environment that promotes effective orientation with a special focus on elders older than 65 years of age. The design proposal of the work has its theoretical basis in terms such as wayfinding, cognition and perception as well as previous research into the navigationprocesses and specific challenges of the elderly. With the aim of creating an accurate navigationssystem according to the needs of the target group, the degree project includes user involvement in the form of semi-structured interviews and photo elicitation. Based on analyses of three other gym environments, additional navigation needs in complex needs in complex gym environments have been mapped. The design proposal has its starting point in all background research where visual solutions in the form of 3D-rendered images have been developed from an iterative process in the software Sketchup and V-ray. In addition, visualizations have been made with the ambition to further clarify the design. The final design includes a navigationsystem consisting of seven signs and a parallel zoning where colorcoding has a big focus.
