Sammanfattning

This study aimed to examine the association between foster care placement and bullying risk among ninth-grade students in Stockholm, focusing on gender-specific patterns. Utilizing secondary data from the Stockholm School Survey (2008-2024), a quantitative approach was employed, guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory to analyze bullying in traditional and online contexts. The findings reveal that youth in foster care are particularly vulnerable, with boys in foster care experiencing a threefold higher risk of cyberbullying. Factors such as frequent school transfers, migration background, and in some cases, lower parental education were also linked to increased risk at the group level. Exposure to bullying correlated primarily with risk factors, while protective factors appeared less influential. Gender differences were observed, with girls reporting higher bullying rates, while boys showed greater association with risk. The results highlight the influence of socio-demographic factors on bullying vulnerability, emphasizing the importance of targeted interventions at the microsystem and mesosystem levels to reduce bullying. These insights underscore the need to investigate risk factors for foster care youth, which could inform targeted interventions. Despite limitations, the study offers valuable insights into bullying in the Swedish context, particularly among foster care youth, and lays the groundwork for future research.
