Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study has been to capture how art teachers understand and relate to the subject’s history as well as to the concept of visual culture. The material was generated through semi-structured interviews with art teachers. The findings show that traditional attitudes and teaching methods are still present and practiced within the subject of art. However, these attitudes and methods do not necessarily stand in opposition to contemporary approaches to teaching. The results also indicate that the teachers hold varied understandings of the concept of visual culture, revealing a lack of shared language around the term.
