The purpose of the study is to search, map, analyze and compile research that highlights reading comprehension through visual support in language teaching. The research questions underlying this study are: 1. What characterizes research that examines reading comprehension using visual support, with a focus on purpose statements, theory, method and selection? 2. How is reading comprehension with visual support presented in the research? 3. Which strategies, approaches, and models can be identified in the research in relation to special education promoting-aspects? Using a systematic literature review approach, according to Eriksson Barajas, Forsberg and Wengström's (2013) method book, the study's selection was conducted carefully through both manual and database searches in the databases PRIMO, ERIC, DIVA, and Google Scholar. Relevant inclusion and exclusion criteria as well as specific keywords were used to identify articles that were relevant based on the study's purpose and research questions. The search process resulted in 11 articles being selected for further mapping and analyze. To ensure the quality of the studies, were ethical considerations as well as the validity and reliability of the selection and analysis process also addressed. The results of this study show what characterizes the research that illuminates reading comprehension through visual support with a focus on purpose statements, theory, method and selection. The results also demonstrate how research highlights the importance of good literacy as well as how beneficial visual support is in language teaching. The research analyzed in this study points out that visual support is advantageous for all students regardless of age and learning environment. This study has also highlighted various special education aspects that emerge in research regarding visual support in language teaching.
