Sammanfattning

Background: Procedural pain is common among children in healthcare. Despite the availability of evidence based- methods, children’s pain may still be underestimated or insufficiently treated. Nurses play a central role in assessing and managing pain and involving both children and their relatives in care. Aim: The aim was to describe nurses´ experiences of pain in children during healthcare-related procedures Method: A general literature review with a qualitative approach was conducted. Ten scientific articles were analyzed using thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke. Results: Two themes were identified: Pain assessment and organizational conditions, and relational aspects and collaboration in pain management. Nurses described difficulties interpreting children´s pain expressions, particularly among younger or non-verbal children. Time constraints, workload, and limited resources affected the ability to perform systematic pain assessment and individualized pain management. Communication, trust, and parental involvement were highlighted as important factors Conclusions: Pain management in children is influenced by both organizational and relational factors. Increased knowledge, clear guidelines, and organizational support are needed to strengthen evidence-based pain management. Future research around the subject is needed to improve and tie together evidence and praxis Keywork: Children, nurses ‘experiences, procedural pain, family-centered care
